The discovery of nickel
Nickel was discovered by Axel Fredrik Cronstedt in Sweden in 1751. While trying to extract copper from the mineral, kupfernickel (niccolite), its chemical reactions were not as expected and only the white colour alone proved it was not copper. It led him to realise that he had discovered a new element. He then named it Nickel after the mineral from which he had isolated the element from.
